Teaching of Reading at Mount
Reading is taught using a variety of strategies including phonics. Strategies are adapted to the needs of pupils to help them make accelerated progress and to develop a love for reading. Adults who read with children model good reading behaviour and ask children searching questions to help them develop understanding of the texts they are reading. Children are also given the opportunity to respond to text orally and through book reviews, comprehension activities and to bring in their favourite reading and public library book to share with their class.
